Özet
Bu yazı, günümüzde Tanbûrî Cemil Bey karakterinin,
özellikle Türk makam müziği geleneği tartışmaları bağlamındaki mevcut
sahiplenilme biçimlerini eleştirmekte; ve onu, müzikal kişiliğini etkileyen
tarihî referanslarla anlamayı ve yorumlamayı amaçlamaktadır. Tanbûrî Cemil
Bey’in yaşadığı dönemi ve Cemil Bey’in sahip olduğu toplumsal, ekonomik ve
kültürel sermayenin yapmış olduğu müziğe etkisini konu almaktadır. Bu bağlamsal
yorumlama çabası ile, Tanbûrî Cemil Bey’in günümüzdeki gelenek-yenilik-devamlılık
tartışmalarındaki önemine bakmakta ve bu tartışmaların hâkim unsuru olan romantizmin
ötesine geçmemizi sağlayacak yeni sorular sormayı amaçlamaktadır.

Abstract
This particular
paper is an attempt to examine the existing claims over the musical figure
Tanburi Cemil Bey, especially in relation to the discussions on Turkish maqam
music tradition; and to understand and interpret him with historical references
that are presumed to have affected his musical personality. For this, it
focuses on the realities of the period in which Tanburi Cemil Bey lived, and on
the effects of his social, economic and cultural capital over his music. With
this contextual interpretation, it reviews the legacy of Tanburi Cemil Bey in
relation to the discussions on tradition vs. modernity and continuity and
suggests to ask new questions as an alternative to the romantic perspective
dominating these discussions.
